We’ve prepared a guide that’ll teach you how video annotations work for your creative video content.
This guide is primarily intended for,
Who want an easier and faster way to add markup on videos without having to use several different tools that are costly and outdated.
If you’re here to learn how to add annotations to your online videos, keep reading.
Making your needs clear when it comes to annotating videos is the first and most important step.
There could be many reasons why you would want to use a video annotation tool, but typically there are two main ones.
Firstly, for personal, and then for professional use.
Let’s have a closer look at them both.
Nowadays, everyone owns a phone, a PC, or a Mac, so recording a video and uploading it is easier than ever.
You might want to make a YouTube video and collaborate with your friend who knows how to edit it.
You may want to prepare a video presentation with your teammates for a school project.
Whatever the reason, annotations can ease the collaboration process and contribute to a better end result.
Especially when working on a video file remotely, it’s important to clearly be able to demonstrate what adjustments should be made.
That’s where video annotation tools come in.
Let’s have a look at how you can use them for professional reasons too.
Professionals from various industries are more and more in need of better video annotation and collaboration tools.
Video editors, designers, marketers, and producers are just a few of them.
Whether you’re working as a freelancer or part of a team that creates video content, it’s vital to be able to do that seamlessly and with high-quality results.
Let’s dive deeper into how video annotations can contribute to that.
Labeling and annotating on videos gives clients the chance to send feedback easily.
Team members can then simply make adjustments based on that. There’s no need to send pointless emails back and forth, or chase your client around in order to get clear feedback and approval.
With proofing tools, the whole review and approval process is faster than ever.
Getting feedback from teammates is just as important as getting feedback from clients.
It’s vital to be able to collaborate easily with a tool and annotate images, documents, and especially videos.
With a video annotation tool, proofing becomes easier than ever; emails and phone calls are a thing of the past.
This allows teammates to improve their workflow through clear and instant feedback on files.
Depending on how complicated your work is, sometimes you might need to create a video tutorial for new team members.
Especially since remote work and remote training is now standardized, a tutorial will help them understand how you work and have a clear picture of what they need to work on.
A video annotation tool can help you optimize such a tutorial by working on it in real-time with other teammates.
If you work as part of a team, then you most likely have had to create a presentation in the past.
One can easily be made with slides, but videos are definitely more visual for a meeting.
Instead of texting your colleagues about how you should make it and what adjustments are needed, a video annotation tool will allow you to pinpoint comments on a specific part of the video.
This makes feedback and approval a very fast and clear procedure.
To conclude, it’s important to define your video annotation needs before you move on to the second step we have for you.
Now that you’ve defined your video annotation needs, the next step is to choose which video annotation software you’ll use.
Let’s see some good options for a video annotation software.

Now let’s see in detail how easy it is to use our very own tool, Oroson.
We will show you, step-by-step, how to upload, annotate, and share your video.
The first step in order to successfully annotate your video is to upload it to Oroson.
To upload a video – or any file type – simply drag and drop it on the Share for Review section or click “Browse Content Types”, as shown below.
If you select the second option – to browse content types – a window will pop up for you to choose what file type you want to upload.
In this case, we want to upload a video file, so we click on “File / Image”.
After that’s done, choose the specific file you want to upload from your computer.
Our file is a video that we selected from the many available options on Visme’s video templates library.
All you have to do is click on the file you wish to upload.
You’ll then see a preview of your chosen file, to make sure it’s the one you want to upload.
If you’re sure it’s the right file you wish to annotate, then all you have to do is open it, as shown below.
When you open it, simply wait for your file to be uploaded to Oroson.
When that’s done, all you have to do is click on the file for a teammate, a client, or yourself to review it.
Pretty easy, right?
In just a few simple steps, you can upload any file you want to Oroson and work on it.
Let’s move on to the next step.
Now that your file is ready, it’s time to see exactly how you can annotate and give feedback on it.
After opening the file you want to review, as shown in the last step, your file, along with some features will appear.
Annotating on a video is a simple process, so we’ve placed a number on each feature from 1 to 8, as shown in the screenshot above.
Each number represents an action you can do to annotate or download a file:
Let’s assume you want to annotate a specific part of the video.
Simply hover your mouse over the part you want to pinpoint your comment on.
When you select it, all you have to do is type your comment in the text box in the bottom right corner.
Fill in the feedback you wish to give on the specific part, numbered 1, and then click “Post Comment” where you see 2, in the image below.
When you’ve posted your comment, it’ll be shown on the right side of your file, alongside every other comment made.
That way, you can see all the pieces of feedback organized and gathered in one place, each corresponding to a specific part of the file.
Also, when it comes to video files, you have the ability to annotate any part you want on any second.
In our example, we’ve added an annotation on the fourth second of the video.
This means that every white dot on the red progress bar corresponds to a separate pinpointed annotation.
Don’t forget that you can also see the exact second an annotation was made right above every comment, on the right of your file.
It’s pretty clear that reviewing videos and annotating them through Oroson is a piece of cake.
Let’s move on to the next step; how you share your file with team members.
Now that you’ve reviewed your video and added as many comments as you want, it’s time to share it for other people to see your feedback.
Simply click the Share button on the top right corner of your screen to share your files with clients or teammates.
With Oroson, the whole review and approval process really does become seamless.
A big advantage of our tool, Oroson, is that it gives a lot of flexibility to teams in order for them to optimize their workflow.
You can invite teammates and clients to review and generally collaborate on your files in a simple way.
Just choose whether you want to invite a Guest where you see the 1, a Teammate next to 2, or copy the link at 3, and send it to them.
It’s as easy as that.
All in all, we believe that we’ve clearly illustrated how to annotate files on Oroson step-by-step, and we really hope you’ve found our beginner’s guide on how to annotate videos useful.
